Memorial Day SCRF Meet on Tehachapi !
26th
The hills of Tehachapi were calling as we set out for the long awaited SCRF Memorial Day Trip.
We packed up and left friday night and it wasn't long before we were winding down the 58 heading
towards Caliente. I had never camped at Caliente until that trip so I wasn't sure what to expect.
We arrived to find a tiny tent village had been set up under the shade tree and the crew
was out setting up the shades with the usual decorations :D It wasn't long before the sun was
going down and we were all lined up for night shots
I was trying to save my camera batteries for the next day (which proved to be unsuccessful ;-) ) so I stashed the cam
till the next morning, was awoken with a pleasant suprise with a BNSF train with quite a lashup ! Until then I had never managed to
shoot an actual F45 in any paint scheme, let alone Montanna Rail Link.
The clouds were moving in and out all day so we managed to get some interesting shots while we were under the shelter
trying to keep warm
We decided to head up to the Loop and do some exploring in that area to see if we could find some
more trains heading in our direction.
It wasn't long before we were back at camp and exploring the Caliente Narrows, the rail-traffic was starting
to pick up so we began discussing different areas to shoot from.
After we relised that the rail traffic was picking up and we heard that we had trains coming at us
we headed for various spots around the Horseshoe to get shots
A train stopped on the main when BNSF 7695 showed up, lined to pass on the back track. This started the
Mad-dash of foamers for the 2nd half of a BNSF manifest . Thank God it wasn't a Grain Train or I probably
would have suffocated.
We met up with my webmaster, Mr.SockBandit halfway through the train and we decided to pursue the train
that was recently stopped on the main at Caliente, so off we went !
Here we see Marshall shooting a BNSF train at Tunnel 2
My last shot of the day is a different angle on a one of a kind paint scheme on a GP30U
